‘My illustrations are colourful and imaginative, inspired by nature, theatre and stories from around the world.  I use delicate washes of paint, creating intricate details with a fine brush and adding finishing touches of gold and silver. I also enjoy drawing in black ink.’

Emily studied at Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools.  She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, Cadogan Contemporary and Thompson’s, Marylebone.  Commissions have ranged from large-scale paintings of London parkland, to a set of artist's books about the Highland landscape; and from paintings for children in hospital, to sketches for a guide book to the Languedoc region of France.  She was artist-in-residence at the Kunstcentrum in Leiden, the Netherlands; and after receiving the Christie’s Award, she painted in Hungary and Romania.  She has illustrated for Hatchard’s bookshop, NHS Health Scotland, the Scottish Storytelling Centre, Speechmark Publishing and Incentive Plus.  Emily also teaches in the Education Department of the National Galleries of Scotland.
